The department is developing a Disability Support Quality and Safeguarding Framework (the framework) and Disability Support Ecosystem Safeguarding Strategy (the strategy).

The framework and the strategy will:

• set the standard and culture of the disability ecosystem
• empower people with disability to access quality supports and utilise safeguards
• unify and strengthen safeguards for people with disability.

In December 2024 the department engaged AHA to provide consultation and engagement services to help develop the framework and the strategy.

Our engagement will be informed by a review of existing reports, literature and previous consultation findings to understand stakeholder views of safeguarding across the Australian disability ecosystem. We will use this understanding to minimise stakeholder fatigue and ensure that our engagement is informed and purposeful.

Between May 2025 and May 2026, we will facilitate consultation with the disability community and the sector. Our approach will ensure that the views of the disability community and sector are considered at all stages of developing the framework and the strategy.
